Casa Escuela

A new option for secondary education for young people around Lago General Carrera.

Casa Escuela

Casa Escuela is a secondary school project for young people from Puerto Guadal, Puerto Bertrand and Mallín Grande. The idea is simple: a good secondary education close to home, so teenagers don't have to leave their families and their community to get one.

A rounded education

Three strands of one education, each feeding the others.

We want students to do well academically, and also to grow up capable, curious and confident in the world around them. So the school is built around three strands that run through every week, rather than sitting in separate boxes.

1

Academic

The national curriculum, taught with close personal support and the latest digital learning tools, so every student has a real chance to excel and to go on to further study.

2

Practical and technical

Learning by doing. Projects, trades, fieldwork and hands-on activities give students practical skills and a chance to find out what they enjoy and what they are good at.

3

Personal growth

Getting to know themselves, learning to work and live alongside others, and taking an active part in their community and in the world beyond it.

Technology that opens doors

Distance shouldn't decide the quality of a young person's education.

Good digital tools change what a small rural school can offer. Students can reach high-quality courses and learning materials that would otherwise be out of reach, work at their own pace, and get help exactly where they need it. Teachers can follow each student's progress closely and adjust as they go.

Technology is a tool here, not the whole classroom. It works alongside the teachers and alongside everything the area itself has to teach.

Learning in Patagonia

Learning in Patagonia is a privilege and a real opportunity. The lake, the mountains, the rivers and the forests make a classroom few schools anywhere can match.

Students learn from the place itself and from the people who live and work here, and from the knowledge this community has built up over generations. Projects, outings and practical work let them put what they study into practice in the world just outside the door, and connect their own surroundings with the wider world.

Opening paths to the future

Casa Escuela wants young people to broaden their horizons, discover their interests and choose their own path, without losing their roots.

Some will go on to university or other higher education. Others will build their working lives here, in technical and practical careers linked to the region's opportunities, especially tourism and conservation. We want every student to leave with the skills and confidence to do either, and with a real choice about where their future lies.
